A magnet for bees and butterflies, including monarch butterflies. The flower buds are edible and taste somewhat like peas and can be used to thicken soups. The young shoots and leaves can be cooked and eaten as a substitute for asparagus. The latex removes warts when applied once a day for several weeks. The latex also has antiseptic properties and has been used to treat skin sores, cuts and ringworm. Prefers well-drained dryish soil in full sun. Ht. 60-120cm (2-4ft).
