A unique but misunderstood variety with characteristics that have led to a taxanomic challenge in terms of classification, resulting in misplacement in genera such as
over the course of history. Although it is called thyme, it doesnt look like thyme at all, with large fleshy lemon-oregano scented leaves. Thrives in tropical climates, native to hot regions of Africa, Asia and Australia. For this reason, this succulent makes a great indoor potted houseplant when situated in full sun and well drained sandy soil! Has been used in folk medicine to treat a wide variety of ailments including colds, asthma, constipation, headache, cough, and skin diseases. Has antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antitumor, antiinflammatory and analgesic properties, just to name a few! Because of the antibacterial activity, the oils have been used in household cleaning applications, as well as in aromatherapy in wellness spas. Leaves can be eaten raw or cooked but usually used in small doses and combination with other herbs in a spice dish, especially in Jamaican cuisine. Height up to 1m tall.
