Is there a herb that you can take that would stop and get rid of pimples, black heads and blemishes?

Acne that appears with pimples and blackheads is caused by blockage of the sebaceous (grease) glands and can be helped with a low fat, dairy-free, sugar-free diet, with lots of fresh fruit & vegetables. The pimples are likely to return unless the diet is changed. Greasy creams will increase the bacterial build up.

Herbally, you can help by taking herbs that improve elimination of waste products through areas other than the skin. Dandelion leaf supports excretion by the kidney, Dandelion root supports liver processing of wastes and elimination by the bowels. Heartsease (Viola tricolour) is an anti-acne herb rich in zinc, required for healthy skin, and flavonoids, which nourish the blood and improve circulation to the affected areas. Gotu Kola helps acne with its blood detoxifying, antibiotic, diuretic and laxative properties.

Daniel Mowrey, in "Proven Herbal Blends" (available at Richters) suggests a combination of herbs to clear toxic waste from the body by supporting the immune and digestive systems, the lymph and adrenal glands, the pancreas and the liver so that they can work more efficiently to process and eliminate toxins. These herbs include: Chaparral (Larrea divaricata), Dandelion root (Taraxacum officinale), Burdock root (Arctium lappa), Licorice root (Glycyrriza glabra), Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea), Yellow Dock root (Rumex crispus), Kelp & Cayenne.
