In describing how to take St. Johns Wort it said that it is mixed with alcohol. If you are suffering from depression and also alcoholism can you safely take this product?

It is not necessary to take St Johnswort in an alcoholic form. You can get oil in gel caps and dried powder in capsules.

Yes, St. Johnswort can help in cases of alcoholism. According to Christopher Hobbs in his book, "St Johns Wort, The Mood Enhancing Herb" (available from Richters), anyone taking alcohol should consult with a health care provider before taking St Johnswort. There is no evidence that St Johnswort causes particular problems, but alcoholism is often tied to depression and the effect of St Johnswort may be compromised by excessive alcohol intake.

Is GNC a good place to buy herbs? I’ve had conflicting reports on GNC products.
