Diet is a very important factor in depression. Three balanced meals a day, with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds, avoiding coffee, sugar, fats and alcohol will help give your nerves the nutrition they need. Supplementation with B vitamins and essential fatty acids such as Evening Primrose Oil is often helpful.

St. John’s Wort is the herbal alternative to anti-depression drugs. It is not contra-indicated in breastfeeding, but is best taken under supervision of a holistic health practitioner.
