Could you please tell me something to take for very dry skin from winter months?

Adding essential fatty acids to your diet, such as extra virgin olive oil, fresh walnuts and hazelnuts and oily fish, such as mackerel, sardine and salmon, will help to nourish dry skin.

Kathi Keville, in "Herbs for Health and Healing" (Berkley Publishing Group, New York) suggests bathing with "floating bath oil", which can be made by adding 12 drops each of lavender and rose geranium essential oils to 2 ounces of vegetable oil. One teaspoon of this mix is added to a bath. These essential oils encourage oil production in dry skin. The floating oil remains on the skin on emerging from the bath, to protect it from drying out. The heat from the bath encourages oil absorption by the skin. Sweating in the bath is good for the skin.

Suggestions from James Duke in "The Green Pharmacy" (available at Richters) include the following:

* Application of a lotion containing water, glycerin and aloe vera.

* Evening Primrose oil or Vitamin E capsules taken internally.
