Varicose Veins

I would like some in depth information on varicose veins. I know what they are and what is happening to the vein walls internally to cause the breakage of veins on the surface of the skin. I would like to know exactly what herbs to take and in what dosages to help heal and strengthen from the inside out. My diet and exercise regimen is in good shape and my weight is low but I believe there is something that can be taken internally to heal and strengthen.

Varicose veins are tortured and enlarged. Possible causes are valve damage altering the flow of blood returning to the heart, high blood pressure causing blockage, blood flow restriction from tight clothing, excess weight or lack of exercise. The risk increases in pregnancy and with age.

Internally, rutin, found in buckwheat and available in tablets, strengthens the blood vessels. Vitamin E, 400iu daily (consult your doctor first if you have high blood pressure) protects the vein walls. Horse Chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) is the most effective herb. It strengthens the capillaries to reduce leakage and contracts the veins. Dosage, three times daily, is 200mg capsules or 1 teaspoon of the tincture. If you can find a standardized extract, follow the directions on the bottle. Witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) also strengthen blood vessels and tightens the veins. Most Witch hazel products are for external use only. If you can find a product made for internal consumption, follow the dosage directions on the bottle.

Witch hazel and Horse Chestnut are also effective used externally.

The legs should be rested in an elevated position to help the blood flow back to the heart.
