Addison’s Disease

Can you please tell me if there is anything that can help my friend? She has what is called addison’s disease. The doctors have her all messed up. Are there any natural things that can help her?

Addison’s disease is the failure of adrenal gland function, causing a deficiency of hormones, particularly cortisol and aldosterone.

Thomas Bartram, in "Bartram’s Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine" (available at Richters) suggests herbs which support the adrenal glands: Sarsaparilla, Wild Yam, Borage, Licorice, Ginseng and Chaparral. If steroid therapy is being used, Bartram suggests that supplementation with Licorice and Ginseng may sustain the function of the glands.

I suggest that your friend consult a natural practitioner, such as a qualified herbalist or naturopath, to help design a program that will suit her needs.
