I have a great deal of tension in my diaphragm. It does not move smoothly. I somewhat overdid yoga breathing over a period of couple of weeks. What herbs might be right to relax me here?

Your best bet is to consult a responsible yoga teacher, who can assess your symptoms and advise gentle exercises to loosen up the diaphragm.

In general, strained and tense muscles need a good supply of vitamin-rich blood to the area. Eat foods rich in vitamins C and E, such as citrus fruit, dark leafy green vegetables and broccoli. Ensure sufficient blood circulation by adding ginger and cayenne pepper to your food. Essential fatty acids, as in freshly ground flax seeds and oily fish (salmon, mackerel, sardines) provide the building blocks for muscle repair. The herb Yarrow may help, with its anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, circulation stimulating and relaxing actions.

Externally, a castor oil pack may help to reduce inflammation: soak a cloth in warmed castor oil, apply to diaphragm area and cover with plastic or towels to keep the heat in. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil to the warm cloth to assist relaxation.
