I have eye problem. The white part of my eyes has turned really yellow in color. I have had 3 blood tests on my liver, but nothing was found. My eyes have burning, feel dry and are blood shot. I use natural tears all day but no help found. I take vitamin A, 10,000 IU a day, but no help. Please help me to solve my eye problem.

Yellowing of the eye whites usually indicates jaundice, which may result from a number of causes. The redness may be an inflammation from allergies or infection.

I suggest that you continue to see your doctor for ongoing examinations. I also suggest that you consult with a well-qualified and experienced herbalist or naturopath, who can take your full case history and follow up on any recommended remedies. It is important that you make contact with someone who can determine the underlying cause of your problem.

Herbs that may help:

Milk Thistle: antioxidant, liver protector, produces new liver cells to protect the old. Ask your health food store to recommend a good brand of milk thistle extract in capsule form, and take as directed on package.

Fennel: to reduce inflammation and burning, soak a fennel teabag in cold water and place over the eye for 10 minutes, three times a day. Or make a fennel tea and bathe the eye 3 - 4 times a day using the room-temperature tea in an eyewash cup.

Evening Primrose Oil: Liver supportive, anti-oxidant, supportive of blood vessels to the eyes. 500 mg capsules three times daily. Ask your health food store to recommend a good brand.

Blueberries: support blood circulation to the eye. Eat a few tablespoons daily.
