I had been seeing an accupuncturist for digestive problems. I am curious why would she have given me Organic Oil Blend 1:1 Ratio omega-6 to omega-3 (Essential Fatty Acid Supplement). I have not had time to go back and see her, and I am running out of this herb. Just real curious what it is used for?

Essential fatty acids are necessary for all body functions, and must be taken in food (i.e. they are not produced by the body). Omega-3 and Omega-6 are the main essential fatty acids.

It is important to balance these fatty acids. Too much of one type of essential fatty acid results in a deficiency of the other. In the North American diet, we generally get more omega-6 and too little omega-3.

Good food sources of essential fatty acids are nuts, seeds and fish. Omega-3 is especially abundant in salmon, sardines, mackerel and freshly ground flax seeds. Trout and tuna are other good sources. Nuts and seeds are high in omega-6. Margarine and refined oils in salad dressings and cooking oils inhibit the absorption of essential fatty acids, and should be avoided.

There are many benefits to digestive problems in taking a good blend of essential fatty acids, including: maintaining the health of cells and organs in the digestive system; supports wound healing; stimulation of the digestive system; building immune function; anti-inflammatory action; supporting blood circulation to all parts of the body, including the digestive system.
