Herbal Healing for a Spinal Fusion

I had a spinal fusion in November. So far the fusion has not fully taken. The doctor thinks the biggest reason is because I am a smoker(which I have cut down a lot). I was just wondering if they made a herb that might help me heal faster or if they made a herb that might help my smoking habit, I have tried the patches but they make me sick. If you have any information please let me know or if you could give me a web-site that might know.

We have information on herbal help for quitting smoking on our website at http://www.richters.com. Choose "Q&A" from the main menu, then choose "Search Richters Q&A", and enter the word "smoking" for the search. Smoking adversely affects the blood vessels and the blood circulation as well as adding toxins to the system and promoting the loss of calcium from the body, hindering healing.

For healing your spinal fusion, it is important to improve blood circulation to the area. Cayenne and Ginger are good herbs for increasing circulation. If there is still inflammation, Licorice root can help. Licorice nourishes the adrenal glands, which produce natural steroids. Licorice should not be taken in cases of high blood pressure, and it should not be taken for longer than 6 weeks. These herbs should be available in a health food store in tincture form. You will need only a few drops of cayenne tincture day, or 10 drops of ginger tincture and 1/2 teaspoon licorice extract in a glass of water, three times a day.

There is a herbal formula called "Dr. Christopher’s Bone, Flesh and Cartilage" that helps to heal bones and connective tissue. It is available as a cream for external use and as a tincture or capsules for internal use. You should be able to find this formula in a health food store or herbal shop.

For more information on healing bone and connective tissue, including calcium and magnesium requirements, see our website at http://www.richters.com. Choose "Q&A" from the main menu, then choose "Medicinal Herbs and Their Uses" and search for the item "Repairing Broken Bones".
