I have heard that oregano has helped people in preventing bladder infections...is this true?

Oregano oil has been touted widely for its antibacterial properties. There is scientific evidence that oregano oil does indeed have potent antibacterial effects.

According to Dr. Cass Ingram’s book, "The Cure is in the Cupboard" (available from Richters): "Oil of oregano offers significant antiseptic powers for the urinary tract. It is far more active against obnoxious urinary pathogens than the typically relied upon natural compounds such as garlic, goldenseal, and echinacea. The active ingredient, carvacrol, acts directly upon the mucous membranes of the urinary tract and bladder, aiding in the destruction of noxious microbes. It offers the unique advantage of destroying both urinary bacteria as well as yeasts, something that standard antibiotics fail to achieve." In the book, Dr. Ingram goes on to provide a treatment protocol for bladder infections using oregano oil.
