I have a friend at work. His niece has porphyria, a blood thickening disease. Is there anything she can take that is natural to help her? She is only seven and she cries about being in pain all the time and headaches. The doctor they go to says to give her sugar. That doesn’t seem right.

Poryphyria is a defect of the enzymes creating haemoglobin. It is usually a congenital disorder causing multiple sensitivities and symptoms.

Sugar does help in most cases, by affecting insulin release. It takes the edge off flare-ups.

An experienced natural practitioner can help the individual by working with the diet and promoting digestion and elimination. Eliminating certain foods from the diet is more effective than using herbs. Herbal suggestions are dependent on the individual case. This natural help can make the person feel more comfortable, but there is no cure.
