My husband just found out he had kidney stones. My grandmother recommended cornsilk tea. Is it okay to mix corn silk tea with pain medication and is it okay to drink corn silk cold instead of hot?

Corn silk is soothing to the urinary tract, and is a diuretic. It has no actions that should interact with pain medication.

It will be just as effective to drink corn silk tea at room temperature as it would be to drink it hot. Drinking it cold from the refrigerator may aggravate the condition. To make the tea, steep 2 teaspoons of fresh or dried cornsilk in a cup of boiling water, covered, for 15 minutes. Strain. Drink 3 cups a day.

If you are using your own corn silk, use only silk from freshly picked corn. If you are drying the silk for future use, dry completely on screening placed in an airy room, away from direct heat and sunlight, and then store in a glass jar or brown paper bag, away from heat and light. It will only take a few days for the silk to dry.
