My fiance suffers from extreme itching after he takes a shower, he has been told from the doctor that it is caused from his histamines. He has done extensive research on modern pharmaceutical medication and also used prescription strength Reactin (20mgs). It worked, however, it raised his blood pressure and heart rate. So for the for the last three years he’s been using Stinging nettle root/leaf in liquid and capsule form and still itches, but not as severe. We were wondering if there were any other remedies that you could suggest.

It is important to look for the underlying cause of the itching. If is caused by histamines, then what is the cause of excessive histamines? Possible causes of itching are liver disease, drugs that are toxic to the liver, steroid drugs, disorders of the kidneys, blood, and thyroid gland, cancer, allergies, and systemic candida. If he only itches after a shower, have you looked into non-allergenic cleansing products in your health food store?

A nutrient deficiency can also cause itching. Does your fiancé include healthy oils and protein in his diet (extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, flax seed or oil, fish and lean meats)? Does he eat fresh fruit and vegetables and whole grains?

Antihistamine herbs include garlic, marshmallow root, burdock, peppermint, sage and evening primrose oil .
