What is your opinion on cleansing with teas that has cayenne pepper as one of the ingredient if one has been diagnosed with Hepatitis C? I ask because I read somewhere one should avoid spicy foods, herbs (especially cayenne), etc. if he/she has Hep C. I favor the Master Cleanse Lemonade Diet with cayenne.

There was a theory that spicy foods were bad for liver and the digestive system, so spicy foods were on the list of foods to avoid in these problems. I don’t know if this theory was based on any evidence or science. Cayenne is used in herbal medicine to increase circulation, improve digestion and to fight colds and other infections. Some people are intolerant to spicy foods, in which case they should be avoided.

For hepatitis C, I recommend the protocol listed on our website www.richters .com. You can use the link http://richters.com/show.cgi?page=./QandA/Medicinal/19980527-1.html.
