What herb can be used to help an iron deficiency? I have heard that turmeric is good. Can you explain if it is good and how to use it?

Yes, turmeric can help with iron deficiency, by improving absorption of iron. It should be used along with a diet that includes foods high in iron, and avoids foods that decrease iron absorption. Please see other items about iron deficinecy on our website www.richters.com. Choose Q&A from the main menu, then enter "iron" for one search and "anemia" for a second search.

You can use turmeric in cooking: add to soups, stews, stir fries etc. It is best absorbed when cooked with a little hot pepper (cayenne, hot sauce etc.). Curry powder includes turmeric and hot pepper. A medicinal dose would be about a teaspoon of turmeric three times daily.
