Which herb is a natural appetite suppresive?

Before looking at herbs to reduce your appetite, I think you need to think about why your appetite is increased. The most common reasons for this are fluctuating blood sugar levels, ignored thirst response, too many foods that stimulate hunger and comfort eating. It is important to address the underlying cause.

The first thing to do is when you are hungry, ask yourself if you are actually thirsty first. Often times we learn to ignore our thirst response and the body then makes us believe we are hungry in hopes that the basic thirst need will be met by food.

The second thing to do is eat something bitter. This bitter reflex can stop sweet cravings by balancing out blood sugar levels. Herbal tinctures such as dandelion, yellowdock or gentian are good bitters to try and are available for purchase at Richters.

The third thing to do is avoid all refined foods, high sugar foods and simple carbohydrates. These foods do not give us a full sense for very long. In fact, they cause our blood sugar levels to bounce around so much so that the body begins to think it is hungry when really it is just on a blood sugar roller coaster ride.
