In medieval times mulled wines were thought to help keep people healthy through the cold winters, and were called Ypocras or Hipocris after the great Greek physician Hippocrates. In Victorian England, hot mulled wine was even given to children. Whatever the health effects may be, there is no denying that a hot cup of mulled beverage is just what is needed to bring warm cheer on a cold night.
