      Sowing rate: 2.5-3kg/ha (direct), 0.2-0.5kg/ha (indirect).   Planting: greek variety is best for commercial fresh and dry herb and oil production. Sow direct in spring when soil temperature is at least 15°C, or sow in plugs 6 weeks before field planting.   Field spacing: 30-40cm between rows x 7-15cm within rows.   Yield: dry herb 1000-3000kg/ha, fresh herb 10-20t/ha (years 2-5).   Pests: spider mite   Diseases: unspecified fungal diseases can occur in wet weather.   Buyers want: strong scent, good green colour.  
  Sowing rate: 0.5-1g/1000 plants.   Planting: most varieties cannot be grown from seeds; only greek variety is raised from seed commercially. Sow in plugs 12 weeks before sale.   Seeds to finished plugs: 6 weeks.   Plugs to saleable plants: 6 weeks.   Pests: whitefly, spider mite   Diseases: powdery mildew.
