    Sowing rate: 5-15 kg/ha (direct), 0.5-2kg/ha (indirect).   Planting: sow direct in field in spring or sow in plugs 8 weeks before field planting. Trim plants to 15 cm in early spring to encourage new shoots. 'Die-back' occurs in heavy soils that do not drain well.   Field spacing: 50-75cm between rows x 30-50cm within rows.   Yield: dresh herb 10-20t/ha, dry herb 2.5-5t/ha (years 2-5).   Pests: few problems with pests   Diseases: verticillium wilt, oidium powdery mildew.   Buyers want: minimum volatile oil 1.5%, maximum ash 8-12%, maximum foreign matter 3%.  
  Sowing rate: 20-30g/1000plants.   Planting: sow in plugs or flats 12-14 weeks before sale.   Seeds to finished plugs: 8 weeks.   Plugs to saleable plants: 4-6 weeks.   Pests: whitefly, spider mite, mealybug   Diseases: damping-off, powdery mildew.
