I do indeed have a question. What are bay leaves good with?

Bay leaves, also called laurel leaf, may be used fresh or dried. Fresh leaves have a stronger flavour sp less is needed than dried; dried they are sweeter. This is taken from my cookbook Thyme in the Kitchen--Cooking With Fresh Herbs and is also on my web site

Bay Leaves (add one or two whole leaves)

Uses - Soups and chowders; add to water for cooking vegetables (i.e. potatoes) or pasta; spaghetti or other tomato based sauces, casseroles, stews; meat, especially beef dishes, chicken and turkey; fish (when poaching shrimp, cooking shellfish); in marinades; part of bouquet garni; in milk to flavour rice pudding. Remove at end of cooking.
