My husband has sensitive skin,so I’m looking for a recipe for a calendula shaving cream. I have recipes for creams and moisturizers for after shave, but none that work for actual shaving. Any ideas?

Many health food stores carry soaps for sensitive skins that can be used for shaving. An alternative would be to buy a basic hypoallergenic shaving cream or soap, or a shaving cream for sensitive skin, and add calendula tincture. The alcoholic tincture of calendula is especially effective in promoting the growth of new skin in damaged areas. Alternatively, a strong infusion of 1 tablespoon of the herb to one half cup boiling water, or calendula oil may be added to the basic shaving cream or soap. Calendula’s skin care properties include: anti-fungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic.

In order to improve most skin disorders, it is necessary to support and strengthen the body’s organs that process and eliminate toxins, and to control the diet, so that toxin intake is minimized and sufficient "healthy skin food" is included.. Healthy skin food includes most nuts (except peanuts) and seeds (such as sunflower, sesame), fresh fruits and vegetables, and excludes sugars, processed foods and high fat meats. Herbs that support the body’s ability to eliminate toxins include dandelion root, burdock root and barberry bark (Berberis vulgaris).
