What age is best recommended on the Valerian Root? I have a 10 year old that does have a hard time falling asleep, and want to know if she can take it?

Some children are poor sleepers from an early age, and they often grow out of it. Recommendations for sleeplessness in children include ensurance of nutritious meals and sufficient liquids during the day so that the child is not hungry or thirsty, good bedroom ventilation and a calming, emotionally supportive bedtime routine. Assuming that these needs are fulfilled, German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) or Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) teas are mildly sedative. The tea can be made by steeping 1 teaspoon of the dried herb in 1 cup of boiling water in a covered ceramic pot or mug for 15 minutes. Give your child one half to one cup an hour before bedtime, sweetened with honey if necessary.

Valerian is usually used for stress and anxiety. One half of the adult dosage can be can be given to a child of ten.
