I sweat a lot under the arms. Is there any herb to help slow it down or stop it?

Sweating is one of the body’s means of eliminating toxins and regulating temperature. Excessive sweating can be caused by low blood sugar or an overactive thyroid gland, in which case nervousness and trembling would also be present. Hormonal changes such as in menopause and the teenage years often cause increased sweating. Nervousness, anxiety, hot, spicy foods and synthetic materials such as nylon and polyester contribute to sweating.

Sweating is usually a healthy sign and does not need to be eliminated for reasons of health. Assuming that serious causes have been ruled out, herbs that can help to decrease excessive sweating are:

Sage: suppresses sweating. One teaspoon of the dried herb infused in boiling water for 15 minutes. Three times a day.

Burdock: A good blood tonic, burdock encourages elimination through other means, such as the lymph, kidney and bowel. Because it is bitter, it is usually taken as a tincture rather than a tea.
