Could you please tell me if red raspberry tea leaves (in tea or capsule) help prevent or ease premature labor pains or contractions during pregnancy? And also any other herbs that may help.

It is advisable to inform your doctor of any herbs you are taking.

Wild Yam, False Unicorn root and Black Haw are used to stop uterine cramping.

Red Raspberry leaf has a long history of use in pregnancy. James Duke in "The Green Pharmacy" (available at Richters) mentions a study that identifies a chemical in raspberry leaf that relaxes the uterus.

Duke states that Black Haw, also called Cramp bark, (Viburnum prunifolium) has been used for over one hundred years for threatened miscarriage. He feels that it soothes the uterus.

Duke includes herbalist Deb Soule’s recommendations to prevent miscarriage:

*a tincture combination of two parts Black Haw, one part False Unicorn Root (Chamaelerium luteum) and one part Wild Yam (Dioscorea villosa). She suggests taking 30 drops of this mixture two to four times a day as a preventative, or every two hours if there is spotting.

*a tea made of 2 tablespoons each of Lemon Balm and Partridge Berry leaves (Mitchella repens) and one tablespoon each of Stinging Nettle leaves, Oatstraw and Red Raspberry leaves, steeped in a quart of boiling water. Drink up to three cups a day.
