Does this herb flush out chemicals in the body? How long does this take?

Golden Seal’s most important use is to improve the integrity of the mucous membranes of the intestines, and the vaginal and urinary tracts. Its often stated use as an antimicrobial herb is based on its content of the chemical berberine. Berberine does kill bacteria in the laboratory, but because it is very poorly absorbed by the intestine, it does not exert this effect in humans.

High doses or long term usage of Goldenseal can cause damage to the stomach and intestines.
