Could you please give me some information on the subject of treating an enlarged prostate with saw palmetto, and also the dosage? I have just had an ultra sound procedure There is no cancer, just an enlarged prostate.

Saw Palmetto has been shown in studies to relieve the symptoms of early prostate enlargement: frequency of urination, urination at night, delayed onset of urination and weak urinary stream. It does not shrink the prostate, but is beneficial in early prostate enlargement because it decreases the likelihood of urine build up in the bladder and the subsequent toxic effects that characterize later stages. Almost all men develop an enlarged prostate after about the age of 60. It is important to regularly consult your doctor.

The dosage is: three times daily: 0.5 to 1 gram of saw palmetto berry or 0.6 to 1.5 ml liquid extract.
