I suffer from an underactive thyroid. I try to eat healthy and and excercise on a regular basis but I cannot seem to lose weight. I take Synthroid daily. Is there anything that you can recommend that will help boost my metabolism.

It is important that you consult a qualified natural health practitioner before taking stimulating herbs. The first consideration is whether your diet includes the essential nutrients and whether your digestive system is absorbing these nutrients well.

The following herbs provide nutrients and assist the digestive process:

Oats and alfalfa can help to increase energy and stimulate the metabolism. They may be used in the form of grains, in teas or as alcoholic tinctures.

Dandelion root is liver supportive and helps to stimulate the metabolism by assisting digestion and elimination. Dandelion can be taken as dandelion "coffee" (available in health food stores), as a tea or an alcoholic tincture.
