I live in Tucson, AZ and have seasonal allergies (spring and fall). I would like to make an herbal tea that will help my allergies. After reviewing your catalog, it appears that the following herbs may provide my relief:
* Elder Flower
* Eyebright
* Ephedra
* Golden Rod
Is this accurate? If not, please provide additional information. In addition, please let me know if these herbs can be grown in the desert climate of southern Arizona. I may add peppermint for flavor. Are all of these plants available through Richters?
This is a good combination for reducing catarrh and inflammation. I suggest that you add Plantain (Plantago lanceolata or Plantago major) to help soothe and heal inflamed mucous membranes.
Elder flower Elderflowers (Sambucus nigra) are anti-inflammatory and anticatarrhal;
Eyebright is astringent, anti-catarrhal and anti-inflammatory;
Ephedra helps to reduce allergic reactions. I suggest that Ephedra be used only under the advice of a qualified herbal practitioner. It is a circulatory stimulant that can cause heart problems if used in excess or by someone with existing heart weakness, circulation problems, thyroid problems or high blood pressure. I use Ephedra with caution and only when other remedies do not give relief. The medicinal dosage is one quarter of a teaspoon of dried herb per cup of water, simmered 5 minutes, three cups a day.
Golden Rod (Solidago virgauria) is anti-catarrhal and anti-inflammatory.
