I wanted to know if st.johns wort really works for depression and if horse chestnut really gets rid of vericous veins? If so how much do you suggest?

Yes, St. Johnswort is well studied and the results show that it is as effective as common SSRI and MAO inhibitor antidepressant drugs for mild to moderate depression. With depression, as with all health conditions, the “cure” comes not from drugs or herbs, but from a balanced body, mind and spirit. Herbs and drugs can only help to relieve some symptoms so that you feel well enough to evaluate your lifestyle and put healthy lifestyle options into place. Health conditions that inhibit digestion of food and absorption of nutrients are common factors in depression. These conditions can be assessed and addressed by a qualified natural health practitioner. Studies are showing that exercise is as effective as drugs in depression after a period of 16 weeks. Life problems and worries that may have contributed to depression should be addressed.

I have found Horse Chestnut to work well in varicose veins. Again, the underlying cause of the problem must be sought to effect a long term improvement.

Doses are dependent on the preparation purchased. Follow the instructions on the label. There are some good creams containing Horse Chestnut and Witch Hazel available for varicose veins.
