Non Alcholic Steato Hepatitis

I was recently told by my Doctor that I have Non Alcoholic Steato hepatitis, or N.A.S.H. Do you know of any other herbs I could take? I am taking flaxseed oil, and eating a healthy diet.

N.A.S.H. is a fatty, inflamed liver, not caused by drinking alcohol. The liver inflammation is caused by infiltration of fats into the liver cells. This may be caused by an excess of fat intake over what the liver is able to metabolize or by an overload of chemicals, often drugs, that are metabolized by the liver. Or the cause could be a virus or a body system imbalance. Most important is correction of the cause. I suggest that you visit an experienced natural practitioner who can assess your condition and help to determine the cause in your case.

Treatment includes removal of chemicals (for example drugs, alcohol and food additives), regular exercise and a low fat, low cholesterol diet. Consuming fresh, organic food helps to decrease toxic overload by avoiding pesticides and the additives in packaged food. I suggest that you look at Dean Ornish’s books "Eat More, Weigh Less", (Harper Collis Publishers) which describes the basic philosophy behind a fat free diet and includes hundreds of delicious recipes. Another helpful book is Dr. Dean Ornish’s "Program for Reversing Heart Disease". Ornish’s approach can guide you in maintaining a healthy diet while avoiding dietary fats.
