I was wondering if you could please advise me of an herb that might help my plantar fascia. I have had this condition for past three months and I have been taking cortisone pills on occasion to ease the pain. I would appreciate any help that you can give me. Thanks for your time and your advice.

Plantar fasciitis is stretching of the tissue on the bottom of the heel, usually due to heel spurs (bony extensions at the heel), causing pain. For help with healing bone spurs, please go to our website at http://www.richters.com, choose “Q&A” from the main menu, and enter “bone spur” for the search.

If a bone spur is not your problem, check with a podiatrist for possible shoe problems or peculiarities with walking. Orthotics, custom made, and massage of the area may be recommended.

Greens supplements often help to eliminate inflammation in plantar fasciitis, probably by providing essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants for blood purification and tissue repair. Typical greens supplements include wheat grass, spirulina and chlorella. You should feel results after taking a greens supplement for about 4 weeks.

A herbal mix called "Bone, Flesh and Cartilage", originated by Dr. Christopher, is often used to heal problems with plantar fascia. Both external and internal preparations, available at herbal and health food stores, include red oak bark, skullcap, marshmallow, lobelia, cayenne and wormwood.
