It is said that saffron has antiepileptic properties. I would like to know whether any scientific investigation has been done concerning this effect of saffron and whether saffron is used for this purpose?

A search on the U.S. government’s National Library of Medicine Medline database (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?CMD=search&DB=PubMed) revealed nothing about any research on the use of saffron for the treatment of epilepsy.

That same search revealed that there has been research done in recent years on antitumour and anticancer effects of saffron, especially on saffron’s preventative effects.
