Are Swedish Bitters, Essiac and greens products safe to take for liver cancer and pancreas cancer? I am also on a blood thinner. Could this possibly be not good for me due to its vitamin K content? Doctors are saying one thing, but the natural food stores people are saying something else.

I can only give you my opinion on using these products in general. For your individual case, I advise that you consult with a natural practitioner who has completed a full assessment of your health.

Essiac is a general purpose system cleanser that may or may not provide benefits for cancer. I doubt that it would have any negative side effects. Greens products are vitamin supplements. If taken in the suggested quantities, it’s very unlikely that they would supply enough vitamin K to promote blood clotting. Vitamin K is synthesized in the intestinal tract from leafy green vegetables, eggs and beef liver. It is unlikely that the doctors have told you to avoid these foods. I regard Swedish bitters as too laxative to be healthy for a weakened constitution.

I recommend that you consult with a herbalist or naturopath who has worked with cancer patients. Each person has unique health requirements. A good practitioner will work with you to ensure that you are getting the support you require for all of your body systems, as well as giving you advice about the best cancer therapies. To find an experienced practitioner in your area, please see our website at www.richters.com. Choose "Q&A" from the main menu, then enter "herbalist" for the search. The item "Finding a Herbalist" lists the organizations for qualified practitioners. Some of the best cancer specialists will do phone consultations if you are not in their area.
