I have a brother with mental retardation since he was born. He is 32 years old, he can speak but not write or read. Recently he has a huge anxiety for sex. He has not had sex before, but he feels and ask for women to be with him. It is difficult due that he has a mental age of a 8 years old boy but also has the body and the desires of an man. He is irritable sometimes cries like a baby whole day, I think because of his frustration and difficulty to give to his body what it is asking for. But we can not satisfy him and we do not know what to do. He has been treated by psychologists and psychiatrists since he was born but the drugs they recommended altered my brother so we need to be careful given drugs to him. Is there a herb to decrease his sexual drive?

We have previously answered questions about lowering male sex drive. Please see the Q&A section of our website www.richters.com. You can link directly to the item "Excessive Sex Drive" using http://richters.com/show.cgi?page=./QandA/Medicinal/20000817-1.html and to the item "Male Anaphrodisiacs" using the link http://richters.com/show.cgi?page=./QandA/Medicinal/20000102-1.html.

I suggest that you research the web about actions of any herbs that you may want to use. Hops, suggested in one of the answers above, is anaphrodisiac, but care must be taken that it is not given in depression. Hops has sedative actions. In depression, it can further lower the person’s emotional state.

Chasteberry works on the pituitary glad to balance hormones. This may be a more appropriate herb for your brother.
