Rhubarb for Hot Flashes?

I don’t see this on your website -- but will you be carrying a medicinal formula of Rheum rhaponticum (using the roots)? If not, could you recommend a source for me? I would much prefer using a natural product for hot flashes that doesn’t contain estrogen or estrogen like compounds.

Recent research shows that an extract of common rhubarb (Rheum rhaponticum) is effective in decreasing the number of hot flashes in perimenopausal women. Rhubarb has long been known to be a mild stimulant for the production of estrogen, and has been used in menopause. I do not know how rhubarb compares with other natural remedies for hot flashes.

Please see our website www.richters.com for other natural remedies for hot flashes and for other symptoms of menopause. Choose "Q&A" from the main menu, then enter "hot flash" for one search, and "menopause" for a second search. Health food stores are a source for most herbal products.

Because the rhubarb research is recent, products may not yet be widely available, but you can use common garden rhubarb.
