Hirsutism and Folliculitis

I developed hirsutism after the birth of my daughter, 16 years ago. Over the years, the condition has got worse and I have been taking Spironolactone 50mg, but to no real effect after 3 years, apart from making the hairs slightly finer.

I have taken myself off this drug because I no longer see the point and the hairs have thickened up on my face and arms within a matter of weeks! They have also caused my skin to go spotty as they are pushing themselves through. The spots have been diagnosed as folliculitis -- but that hasn’t helped me know how to deal with them and they seemed to be worse whilst on Spironolactone!

I have been to various doctors for years, but my hormones have always come back as normal and because of this, they have ruled out polycystic ovaries.

In desperation, I am now on Agnus Castus and take it in liquid form every morning and night. I have read that this may help. What do you think ? I have also tried Saw Palmetto in the past for about a year, but there was no observable change. Thank you so much for your help.

I suggest that you consult with a natural medicine professional who can take your full health history and get to the bottom of this. It is possible that you need herbs for detoxification and/or liver support, and additional essential fatty acids in your diet. Only a full consultation can provide all of the required information to make informed recommendations. Please see the item "Finding a Herbalist" on the Q&A section of our website to find a qualified natural practitioner.
