Herbs to Prevent Internal Scars

My husband has a condition in which his esophagus where it opens into his stomach tightens up so that it makes swallowing food difficult. He has had a procedure at the hospital twice now over the last few years to stretch (tear) the tissue -- some scarring results. He is starting to have trouble again getting his food down. If he has this procedure again is there something he can take that will help to reduce the internal scarring that will occur?

Firstly, create the best possible tissue before and after the hospital procedure by focusing the diet on carotenes (carrots, orange squash, sweet potatoes, dark green leafy vegetables), cold pressed olive oil or flax oil on salads, pumpkin seeds for zinc, oatmeal to provide silica; soak oatmeal in water overnight and eat uncooked for breakfast, with cinnamon or raisins if desired. Zinc can be taken as a supplement, up to 100 mg daily with meals, for a short time before and after the operation. Zinc supplementation can decrease immunity if taken in high doses for long periods of time.

Apply an external cream/salve or poultice of comfrey and calendula, powerful tissue healers, at the external location of the internal site of the scarring.

Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) heals scar tissue. It can be taken as a tea or tincture.

A week after the hospital procedure, supplement with good quality (ask for advice at a health food store) vitamins E and vitamin C with bioflavonoids to speed healing.
