I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for almost 2 years now and I have had my ups and downs. My friend is a herbalist and he recommended that I take 5000mg of biotin a day with my Metaformin 1000mg twice a day. Is this healthy for me a long with my regular diet?

First of all, the 5000 mg should actually read 5000 mcg. Secondly, biotin is just one of the many nutrients that are especially important with type 2 diabetes. A healthy and balanced diet should give one plenty of biotin as it is found in grains, legumes, nuts and seeds as well as eggs, dairy products and meats. I would recommend a broader range of nutrients for your situation such as that from nutritive herbs like nettles, oat straw, alfalfa, and chickweed. Strong cup of tea can be made by letting these herbs to steep over night before straining and drinking them. Finally, regularly eating bitter and sour tasting foods and herbs are excellent at helping to regulate blood sugar levels via a taste reflex.
