Cut and Sifted Herbs

What does "Dried gum cut and sifted" mean? I was looking at the frankincense and myrrh herbs and saw this on both.

"Cut and sifted" means that the herb is not sold in whole form, but rather "cut" into smaller pieces and then "sifted" to remove the small pieces and dust that result from the cutting process. Frankincense and myrrh gum can come in quite large hard pieces that are hard to use; so, the pieces have been cut and sifted to make them a little easier to use.
