Organic Certification of Seeds

We are about to order seeds and I don’t know if you are aware but for most certified organic growers, all crops harvested in 2001 MUST be from certified stock – for all agencies, I believe – ours for sure! Well, I was wondering if it is possible to get a copy of the grower’s certification with our orders as we get and give with our regular vegetable seeds etc. This would enable us to grow your seed, and support you and your growers – also because you are local and i LOVE buying there. All help is appreciated.

The requirement for certificates is going to present a problem for us. We are not prepared to distribute copies of certificates we have on file because these certificates reveal source information. Few major seed companies will consent to revealing source information to customers and competitors.

We don’t yet know what we will do yet. At this point we can only provide a statement that a certificate is on file. We will need to investigate what out options are and we hope that a workable plan can be put into place in time for the 2001 season. We will look into the possibility of becoming certified as an "organic processor" which will allow us to issue our own certificates based on the certificates we get from our growers.

In the meantime, we can state that all our seeds are untreated and are not genetically modified. And our "SowNatural" (tm) line is seed either organically grown (but not certified), certified organic, or wildcrafted. Richters is committed to expanding the "SowNatural" line in the coming years.
